From our history books, we find during the Second World War ”bandahjehun”, the people of Addu City was not starved to death because of breadfruit trees.
Breadfruit trees play a huge role in Addu City from early years to now. In every household back yard were one or two breadfruit trees which supply shade, fruits, and thus makes life easy. But for the land use and other purposes, people have started cutting down these trees and now this tree is listed among the endangered trees. These trees are home and nesting place for our native bird white tern and these trees have become scarce to the extent of losing their habitat from here.
So, our NGO decided to protect and plant more trees in the Nature Park. For this endeavor, we got a plot from Nature Park, and we have planted trees and looking after them as they grow.
