Planting Coconut Palms

Planting Trees — Trees Provide Food and Oxygen

On World Food Day, October 16, 2020, we started a tree-planting project to counter the declining number of trees. We decided to plant breadfruit and coconut trees as they play a very important part in saving the Earth and its inhabitants. Veshisaafu, in collaboration with Addu City council and Addu Nature Park, planted breadfruit trees in the Nature Park. Breadfruit trees are important as they are home to the white terns distinctive to Addu.

During this event at the Nature Park, Veshisaafu treasurer Aishath Mohammed Didi gifted the organization a story she wrote on a subject matter Athifa Saeed, another member of the foundation, propounded. The story is full of colorful pictures and it shows how important breadfruit trees are. All the pictures are by Yooniya Hameed, Unique, S. Hithadhoo, and her daughter Zika Hameed personify the leading character in the story. Aishath Habeeb, Aaveli, S.Hithadhoo, did the audio recording. A special thanks to Control P and Shamsu whose last-minute checking and printing was an enormous help.  Our sincere thanks go to all of them. Aishath Mohammed Didi, the author of the book, gifted the book to Veshisaafu and the rights to sell and earn money for the organization’s activities.

“Depending on the species, some palm trees can live longer than a century”

“Plant now for the next generation.”
