Breadfruit trees are home to Addu’s native bird, the White Tern. The birds use the breadfruit tree’s sap to stick their eggs for them to grow. However with the declining rate of breadfruit trees, the decline of White Terns has also sped up. We are currently on the way to lose both the tree and the bird, a huge loss to our culture but most importantly, the biodiversity and beauty of our atoll.
