OUR STORY

In 2016, our principal founder, Ms. Fathmath Saeed, was distressed witnessing day in and day out the accumulated piles of rubbish in the children’s park opposite her residence at the time. Regularly, she started cleaning the park single-handedly. Slowly, a few onlookers and neighbors perceived that this solo stranger is toiling to save their small children suffering from smelling and harmful garbage littered all over the park. By the seventh week, one conscious neighbor joined in the cleanup. In the ensuing weeks and months, several others turned up for the cleanup and brought forth a dedicated team of women warriors.

The pouring encouragement and support of friends and neighbors to the team’s good work set in motion the idea of formalizing our team and activities. On December 18, 2019, “Veshisaafu”, a Not-for-profit/NGO was officially registered in Maldives with a few like-minded members. Thenceforward, never looking back, Ms. Fathmath Saeed routinely led the team in cleaning up beaches and public parks full of rubbish dumps, roadsides cluttered with disposable plastic containers, and planting trees in tracts of empty land in Addu City.
